My personal webpage

I'm a researcher and lecturer at the Universidad del País Vasco/Euskal Herriko Unibertsitatea in Bilbao, Spain. I have been a Ramón y Cajal fellow and have also worked for two years in the Observatoire de la Côte d'Azur in Nice, France. Born in Bilbao, at the heart of the Basque Country, I appreciate rain, mountains, good food, and friendship. When I had not begun my PhD. I used to play theater and I still enjoy watching any kind of play (although my free time decreases year after year). Years ago I never missed an opportunity to visit Sevilla, in Andalousia. Besides science (fortunately none is perfect!) my main interests are reading, photography and wathching films. A few years ago I joined a most peculiar mountain club now "extinct" but I still go for mountains a few times a year. I have a photography blog where I post pictures of nature, telescopes and travels.

Pictures: (A short collection from my travels related with science. More pictures taken by me can be found at the link above)

39th Meeting of the Division of Planetary Sciences of the AAS, Orlando, Florida, October 2007

38th Meeting of the Division of Planetary Sciences of the AAS, Pasadena, California, October 2006

Once again in Pasadena. The first picture place on this webpage (on the bottom) was taken on my first visit to Pasadena. At that time I was going to work on the Cassin Jupiter flyby but the funds were low and I had to change my research subject and post-doc location on the last minute. It was therefore very interesting to go back to Pasadena 6 years later with some works on Cassini data. The picture shows me, the Cassini spacecraft (tiny on the left) and a beautiful picture of Titan. The conference was so busy that I could not take much pictures of the area or visit LA like the in the DPS meeting 6 six years before.

Another very nice thing in the conference was the Harold C. Urey prize given to my former boss and good friend Tristan Guillot who gave a really great talk on his work on the formation of the giant planets and their chemical composition.

VII Meeting of the Spanish Astronomical Society (SEA), Barcelona, September 2006

The VIIth meeting of the Spanish Astronomical Society took place in Barcelona. Besides the conference I had a very special visit to historical and modern observatories in Catalonia including the Fabra Observatory where José Comás y Solá discovered the pressence of an atmosphere in Titan. The lower picture shows a panoramic view of Barcelona from the Fabra Observatory close to the Tibidabo.

AGU Chapman Conference on Venus, February 2006, Key Largo, Florida.

I spent a few days in Key Largo and Miami for the AGU Chapman Conference on Venus. This was a very interesting meeting since I had never worked on Venus before. Unfortunately the lack of time does not allow me to continue updating pictures to this page. I guess the arrival in April of the Venus Express Mission will keep many people busy.
37th DPS Meeting, September 2005, Cambrige.

The historical city of Cambridge hosted the last European DPS Meeting. It was imposible to avoid taking lots of pictures of the colleges, the river and even some pubs. The picture on the right is a panoramic view of the famous Trinity college.

Joint European and National Astronomy Meeting, September 2004.
Granada was the last focus of Islamic culture in the Iberian Peninsula. The province is located in the south of Spain in the Autonomous Community of Andalusia. Today, Granada is one of the most visited cities in Spain, thanks to its most famous fortress and palaces of La Alhambra. Some pictures of the city and the muslim palaces.

Paris, France, July 2004.
The The 35th COSPAR Meeting took place in Paris this year. Not much time to visit the city, though. A few hours in the city allowed to take some pictures around the George Pompidou centre.

Monterey, California, september 2003.
The 35th DPS Meeting had place in Monterey. At the left a view of the pier close to the Monterey Conference Center. On the right a picture of our small group (Santiago, me and Agustín) with one of our posters at the meeting. Santiago maintains a webpage with more pictures of this conference and some of the sea lions living there.

Heidelberg, spring 2003.
Walking over the main street of Heidelberg this april.
From left to right: Nuria, Benja, Mamen, myself, Agustín and Maria Jesús.
More pictures can be downloaded from Bruno's webpage.

The Big Dome of the Observatory of Nice.
The Observatory maintains a webpage (only in french) about the history of the site with curious histories about the buildings.

Rock Climbing at Les Houches, summer 2002.
There is a school on astrophysics at Les Houches every summer. We had a very good one that year on High Energy Astrophysics and accretion disks. From left to right upper row: Ivana (Czech Republic), myself (Spain), Sergio (Mexico), our very patient teacher on mountaneering, and James (England), the sportive tough guy. Bottom row: Ladislav (Czech Republic again), fearless Yoshi (Japan), Carsten (Germany) and always smiling Manojendu (India).
Some more pictures here.

Voyager - JPL, October 2000.
Posing in front of a full size model of the Voyager 1 at JPL, California. A nice picture since I had the chance to work on some Voyager data. From left to right, myself, Agustín Sánchez-Lavega and Pedro Sada. October 2000.
